-Exploring Art in Another Dimension.

Overview

For an art show, I attempted to break down the dimensional barriers of printed art and designed outside of the traditional flat, 2D design by incorporating three-dimensional effects, while also creating pieces that make the viewer feel connected and involved with the works. I accomplished this by first graphically designing four different advertisements on 20 by 30-inch poster paper using the Adobe programs such as Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.

Fun Facts

This project series took roughly 82 design hours to complete and cost under $100 to produce.
     Project thesis (shortened):
When you break it down, graphic design is a communicative art form with its biggest use today being advertising. Graphic design's purpose is to scream “buy this, or look what I can do, or have done” but despite its best effort, graphic design remains on a two-dimensional plane unable to break free and physically reach out and grab the audience's attention. With this project, I plan to implement another dimension to advertising.

Other Details

I created ads for iconic and well-known companies, such as Coke, Disney, Starbucks and Warner Brothers.  Once the ads were created I went back into the designs and add an anaglyph 3D quality that can be seen when wearing the iconic red and blue (cyan) paper glasses.  With the designs done and the effect added, I printed, framed and hung them on a wall in one long row.  3D glasses were provided in a holder next to the works, which allowed the viewer to choose if they wanted to experience the pieces.

While also working on my 3D advertisement art pieces I had the opportunity to expand my concept to a printed magazine. I chose to make a yearbook-Esq themed 30+ page magazine that highlighted the growth and development of the Cal State San Marcos campus.
I had the pleasure of photographing, researching, and writing all about the CSUSM campus and designing of that information in a truly unique way. I understand that without viewing the magazine through a pair of 3D glasses is a bit hectic on the eyes, but I guarantee with the glasses on, it is visually stunning.
